WATCH: Need for affordable housing

With the central government working on affordable housing schemes, the topic has seen a revival of interest in the country. As per a recent survey by Magicbricks, almost 25 per cent of home buyers want affordable housing to become a reality, especially post Budget 2014. Moreover, at the national level more than 50 per cent demand is for properties priced up to Rs 50 lakh.

•     Whatever the price bracket of the properties, there is an affordability band that suits a wide range of home buyers
•     In India, bulk of the housing demand comes from urban areas in the price range of up to Rs 40 lakh
•     A large volume of demand is seen for properties in the budget range of Rs 5-10 lakh
•     Significant demand is for Rs 40-100 lakh properties in metro cities
